  • People usually take both CIT105P & CIT106P together (as recommended), since they are offered as part of the CIT PACE Block of classes (although it is no longer required to take them together).
  • The key to these classes together is to remember that you are enrolled in two different classes that have two different perspectives on computers:
    • CIT 105P: A Hardware/Software View of Computers (Hands-on Lab Assignments).
    • CIT 106P: A Societal View of Computers (Reading & Writing Assignments).
  • See the Introduction Page on tips to get started.
    • Look at the Calendar Schedule for more details of how to coordinate the assignment
    • The Assignments Page for more detail on the Assignments themselves.
    • See the Syllabus Page for more info about getting the textbook.
    • See the Email HW Page for info on how to submit Homework Assignments.
  • The software for CIT105P, Microsoft Office Pro, is available in the UMKC Computer Labs. Educational and Home versions are available commercially for less that $100. The Pro will run a couple of hundred dollars per year via subscription depending on how many computers are being licensed to run it. The campus bookstore has discounted student versions. It is not required to purchase the software, but you are expected to use this particular software.
  • Microsoft Office Pro provides the various software tools used in the CIT105P class:
    • Word Processing (Word),
    • Spreadsheet (Excel),
    • Database (Access), - - - Note, the database is not available for Macs.
    • Presentation software (Power Point).
    • Also these applications, though they are not covered in the course:
      • Publisher (desktop publishing)
      • Outlook (email client)
      • One Note (general purpose information holder)
  • No book is listed for the software and most of what you need will be on these pages and available by exploring the program. However, the Dummies books for Microsoft Office give a good reference source for a low price (around $35). If you are working in office and need a reference this is a good book to keep around.
  • Course Materials and Quizzes can be found on the Blackboard Course Content link on the left side of your screen.
  • Grades are available on the Blackboard My Grades link (or on the Tools link), also on the left side of your screen.
